Types of EV Chargers We Install
Needham Electrical Ltd provides domestic EV charger installation and commercial charging solutions to suit different vehicles, properties and charging demands.
- 7kW home chargers: A popular choice for residential properties, providing convenient overnight charging. A typical full charge may take around 6–12 hours, depending on battery capacity, the vehicle’s onboard charger and the amount of charge required.
- 22kW chargers: Suitable for properties and commercial premises with a compatible three-phase electrical supply and vehicles capable of accepting higher charging rates. Not all homes or electric vehicles support 22kW charging.
- Commercial fast and rapid chargers: Designed for workplaces, fleet operators and sites with higher charging demand. The appropriate output depends on vehicle requirements, available electrical capacity and how quickly vehicles need to recharge.
- Tethered and untethered chargers: Tethered units include an attached charging cable for convenience, while untethered models allow drivers to use a compatible cable of their choice.
- Smart and standard chargers: Smart chargers can offer scheduling, remote monitoring and energy tracking, helping users coordinate charging with their routine or electricity tariff.
For most homes, a 7kW charger provides a practical balance between charging speed and electrical requirements. Commercial installations may need multiple charging points, higher outputs or a charging management system to distribute available power between vehicles.
Our team can explain the differences between charger types and help you choose an option that suits your property and intended use.
